ICC Mandates Stop-Clock Rule for T20 World Cup 2024 and Beyond

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has made a significant decision ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies and USA by mandating the use of stop clocks in limited-overs international matches. This rule, which was introduced on an experimental basis in December 2023, has now been made permanent starting from June 2024. 1. Time Limit:The stop-clock rule requires the fielding side to start an over within 60 seconds of the completion of the previous over.

3. Penalties:If the fielding team fails to meet the 60-second deadline, they will receive two warnings initially. Subsequent violations will result in a five-run penalty per incident.

Exceptions to the Rule:

1. New Batter:When a new batter comes to the wicket between overs.

2. Drinks Interval:Official drinks interval.

3. Injury Treatment:Umpire-approved on-field treatment of an injury to a batter or fielder.

4. Uncontrollable Circumstances:Time lost due to circumstances beyond the fielding side's control.

T20 World Cup 2024 Playing Conditions:

1. Minimum Overs: A minimum of 5 overs is required to constitute a game in the group stages and Super Eight stages.

2. Knockout Matches: In knockout matches, the minimum overs required to constitute a game is raised to 10.
